Yuengling Traditional Lager

D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc.
Yuengling Traditional Lager
Pottsville, Pennsylvania
5/2/2009, bottle, 4.4 abv

Smell

Slightly sweet malty aroma with nothing offensive. A pleasant beery smell.

Appearance

Clear medium amber with nice head and good carbonation. Much darker & richer than the mass produced American lagers.

Taste

Slightly sweet, malty, corny taste with no bitterness. Clean smooth and very easy to drink. Great taste and reasonable price make it a good pounder.

Comments

This isn't the best beer on the planet, but it is far from bad and a lot better than Bud. Yuengling began brewing and selling beer in the U.S. decades before the Buschs and the Millers began peddling their wimpy products to us stupid Americans. They get some additional points for being America's oldest brewery in addition to making a decent beer.

  1. Yuengling is often hit-or-miss with me. Sometimes it's a great option to accompany a light meal, but other times I find that it tastes stale. I'm not sure if this is due to inconsistencies on Yuengling's part, or if it just doesn't go well with certain foods or previously-tasted beers.

That being said, I love a good lager!
