O'Hara's Irish Stout

Carlow Brewing Company
O'Hara's Irish Stout
Carlow, Ireland
July 10, 2010, nitro-tap at Frisco Grille, 4.3 abv

Smell

Some wisps of coffee, but not a lot in the smell department.

Appearance

Very dark brown with some ruby red edges with a perfect 1/2" creamy head that lasted until the end.

Taste

Rich, roasted malt flavor with coffee and bittersweet chocolate. A slight hop bitterness is apparent in the finish. Less burnt taste than Guinness. Very smooth and creamy, but that may be the nitro talking, but who cares, I like it. A very good stout that is quite easy to drink.

Comments

Usually, one stout is enough, but I could easily drink several of these.

  1. Ahhhh. I really liked this stout too! I thought it was a little more burnt tasting than Guinness! Still, if people ask me to recommend and Irish stout to them - this is the one!

  2. I discovered this stout a few months back and particularly enjoy the hint of chocolate. I only drink stouts these days.
